Major and Minor Arcana – Overview The four suit rows of Wands, Cups, Swords and Coins make up 56 cards. These 56 together are called the minor cards or minor arcana (arcanum = secret, arcana is the plural). The fifth group are the 22 Major Cards or Major Arcana, the “great secrets” or the great stations of the Tarot.
